What Does My Style Say About Me?
...I think we all need to consistently assess our individual style and figure out what works for us, what doesn't, and why. (Yup, including myself!) In doing so, you'll naturally begin to understand that your sense of style majorly communicates who you are. And with this discovery, you may realize just how it communicates who you are. The next question to answer, then, is: Am I happy with what my style says about me? After all, the last thing you want to do is spend too much money on styles that don't properly express your authentic, amazing self!

Delivering Cuteness to Target: 'Harajuku Mini' in Time for the Holidays

Gwen Stefani does it again. Her incessant climb to the top of the fashion industry is as unwavering as her climb to the top of the music charts. I use the word "incessant" despite her (likely) having several hiccups along the way in both industries, 'cause look how far she's come. Gwen most definitely didn't quit even when the road got slippery. We all know she started off as "Just a Girl" from Orange County who made you wanna buy black and white, steel toe Doc Martens, wear saggy men's slacks from the thrift-store, and jump around with bright red lipstick on. Now, this 40-something, platinum blonde icon of "cuteness" is more Dior than Docs, as her high-end, increasingly profitable fashion line, L.A.M.B. (2004) , wows the world with its punk-chic-rasta taste.
If you are familiar with L.A.M.B. ("Love.Angel.Music.Baby"), you will admit that collections, season after season, are totally Gwen. She has admitted the collection is based off of her own style. Unfortunately, the general public can't afford L.A.M.B. pieces, unless they are on sale at a chic department store. So when her second line "Harajuku Lovers" was born not too long after, lots of fashionistas were pretty excited. Completely different from the sophistication and culture of L.A.M.B., Harajuku Lovers is sporty, pop, and sells at a more attractive cost, evoking her love for Japanese street fashion.
And now...(drumroll please!!!!)...the Harajuku Mini line is now at Target, recently hitting stores this past November. In addition to selling couture and fun fashion to adults, she has created this line for a very impressionable sect of the population: children. Gwen has publicly said that creating a children's line was largely inspired by her sons. (Yup, among her raging career in both music and fashion, she went and got married and had two kids!) And if you've scanned the gossip mags while in line at the grocery store or over coffee at the bookstore, you'll notice tons of pics of the boys. Zuma and Kingston getting paparrazi attention is not only due to the fact they are Gwen and Gavin's kids, they are Gwen and Gavin's kids with...amazing styles! Just as you see Gwen as the muse for L.A.M.B., her little guys are like the poster kids for Harajuku Mini. But, don't worry -- there are adorable pieces for the girls as well.
So as you figure out what to buy for a young child this Christmas or Chanukah, I'd say check out Harajuku Mini at Target. Think lots of "punker pants," hip blazers, leather jackets, printed cotton hoodies and tees, and flouncy dresses and skirts. All unique, familiar (can feel that this is Gwen's fashion line upon first glance), and affordable. The cost ranges between about $10 and $30, and the line caters to babies, toddlers, and girls and boys. Check out the collection on Target.com.
From a young singer who would sew and design her own pieces for the stage to a fashion icon and business mogul, Gwen inspires us all.
In the past few years, I couldn't help but write a few articles about her on Good Girl Gone Shopping. Feel free to go back and read some of 'em:

(Affordable) Strappy Heels for a Sexy Summer Look!
Pretty pedicures in the summer a MUST, and wearing sexy summer footwear will help to properly show off your groomed toes!
I practically live in flip-flops, but there are times that call for something more sophisticated. And while all trends are not meant for everyone, the style of strappy wedges or strappy heels should be a staple in every woman's closet. Whether worn with shorts, an A-line skirt, a jumper, or your favorite fitting jeans, a strappy heel can add some serious flair to your wardrobe. And nope, you don't have to save and save for a great style. Your local favorite stores offer some affordable footwear that will still allow you to buy your morning coffees on a regular basis ('cause sometimes you gotta cut back where necessary when you overspend on fashion).
So check out some of my faves, each found online under $50. Hope this inspires you to play with your summer look! 'Cause the "F" in "Fashion" stands for what? That's right mi amigas = FUN.

Top 7 Tips to Surviving a Solo Shopping Journey at the Mall
If you're similar to me, you have many happy places -- be it a happy mental place or a certain environment or activity that arouses happiness. Over time, I have come to realize where and what my happy places are. When I close my eyes and see the smiles of my grandma Shirley and grandpa Phillip, I feel peace. When I lay on the sand at the beach, the sounds of kids playing combined with the sounds of the ocean waves crashing practically rocks me to sleep. And when I step foot in a mall, be it an outdoor shopping center like Victoria Gardens in Rancho Cucamonga or an indoor hotspot like the Brea mall in Orange County, I can barely walk without skipping.
From touching and trying on new merchandise to inhaling yummy scents, walking around and discovering can make for a fun afternoon. And from what my clients have expressed to me, it is my excitement that gets them excited to shop! Sometimes I will text a client from a store and share the details of a major sale going on....or call/e-mail another client the next day regarding the new arrivals at their favorite store. Sometimes, my excitement is on overload and I will just go ahead and purchase a really great accessory (if it's a steal!) to complement his/her style. Just 'cause I know it could be gone the next day.
So recently, I was thinking of all of the little things that can negatively affect a shopping journey at the mall. And anything that does not benefit a person's time spent at their happy place is just annoying. So here are my top 7 tips to surviving a solo shopping journey at the mall. These tips can be helpful for both the window shopper as well as the shopaholic, and well, everyone in-between who enjoys spending time on their own being out and about around fashion. These are very basic tips, but surprisingly, they can be overlooked. So take notes, or better yet -- print out and post somewhere!
1. Wear comfortable shoes -- Cramped feet will end your shopping trip before it even starts! You will only have yourself to blame if you do not wear the appropriate footwear before walking the mall.
2. Have a shopping list -- I preach this all the time. You may not end up necessarily buying what's on the list (it's very easy to get side-tracked and make random purchases), but it's smart to have a starting point and something to gauge your progress and how off track you may have gotten!
3. Figure out where the bathrooms are -- Nordstrom restrooms are hands-down my favorite pit stops. The lighting is great for freshening up your makeup and it's nearly alway the cleanest. The public bathrooms are conveniently perfect for when you just gotta go already! But if you are able to walk a few more steps or turn that corner to enter Nordi, I highly suggest it.
4. Take a few breaks and sit down and people watch -- You'll get to see real people wearing clothes that show real style. A perfect time to be a fashion critic, and learn what is not acceptable to wear in public as well as what works great for various sizes, shapes, and heights. (Just be sure to not be toooooo rude and stare if you don't like what you see. Give them credit for at least trying.)
5. Use your social skills to build your confidence -- See an ultra-cute outfit on someone? Tell 'em you like their style! Can't find a certain store? Instead of looking at the map diagram in the middle of the mall, ask an employee at a kiosk or someone walking next to you. Speaking up and talking to a stranger is actually a really good confidence-building exercise.
6. Take some time for a quick nosh or a sit-down meal -- Whether you decide that you just want a quick bite from the food court or want to treat yourself to afternoon dining at a delish restaurant near or at the mall, remember: You can walk off the calories afterwards!
7. Remember WHERE YOU PARKED -- No need to call the police right away. Think for a sec before you let your anxiety get the best of you. Which direction was your car faced? Did you walk in the main doors of the store? It is always best to park in the most familiar area of the lot. Wouldn't it be nice to end your shopping journey with a smile on your face and able to leave right away versus walking for a half an hour almost in tears, 'cause you thought your car was stolen (ummm...yes...this hits a little too close to home for me.)
If you enjoyed these tips and feel that either you or someone you know could benefit from such info, please comment and let me know. Your feedback will inspire me for my next shopping mall-related article.

Be Grateful for What You DO Have (Including What's in Your Closet)
If we are learning anything from the devastation that has invaded Japan, it is this: We must be grateful for what we DO have. There will always be stressful days that require balancing acts and sacrifices. But at some point, you get through it. Somehow, you find the strength to break down the barriers and overcome certain daily frustrations. And, yes, it helps when you have family and friends who support you, a comfortable living environment, and a healthy lifestyle. Now imagine if all that is taken away from you without you actually appreciating it. I can't help but think about those in Japan who may not have taken the time to seize certain moments, hugged their family, or smiled at their accomplishments.
As unimportant as fashion feels during a world catastrophe, it is still a key communicator in our society. What you wear on your body, you feet, and your head shows your personality and expresses who you are. So I ask you: When was the last time you looked in your closet and felt pride in what you owned? Or, did you stare at your wardrobe with anxiety because you don't have the "in" trend, according to say Lucky Magazine or InStyle? Not only is fashion recyclable (styles nearly always come back around another year or season), but it will most likely always be accessible to you. Now may be a better time to look at what you DO have, acknowledge what you DON'T need...and donate it to a cause that will benefit a person just like you who has nothing left.
Let's all think about this for a second. Life is not to be taken for granted...Be grateful for what you have and stop focusing on what you don't. From a baby's cry and the sound of laughter to having an overflowing wardrobe and the ability to shop for what you love; If you look within, you will realize that beauty and fortune surrounds you. xoxo

My 'Happy New Year' Movie Pick
It's 2011 -- 27 years since my favorite '80s flick "Footloose" hit the scene. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the original 1984 film, starring Kevin Bacon, you may want to see what it's all about. 'Cause in a nutshell, it shows how persistance can get you to where you wanna be.
It's basically all about a big-city kid who moves to a small town, only to be confronted with religious, uptight folk. Once he realizes that the minister (John Lithgow) has put a ban on dancing, "Ren McCormick" (Bacon) takes a stance and gathers his high school buddies to fight for their right. And that's what they do. My favorite scene to date is when Ren attends a City Hall meeting, with the minister leading the discussion on why dancing is not allowed (it can lead to sin). Ren explains that dancing is a form of expression and that they shouldn't have their rights taken away. Although his campaign has the town in an uproar, Ren does not back down, eventually seeing his way through. The finale: he makes a school dance happen with the permission of the minister.
Sorry -- I may have killed it for those who have never seen this movie and maybe planned to. But with 2011 here, marking a time when many of you are trying to make your resolutions come true, I must give a shout-out to this movie. It shows how speaking up and standing up for what you believe in can actually create positive results. Ren took the necessary routes to make things happen.
Yes, my blog is still dedicated to fashion and shopping, but the idea that one can truly make a difference should be a universal understanding. Making a difference, no matter the industry you work on, is something that all of us ultimately strive to do. So this is my "Happy New Year" movie -- a film that I belive you should take the time to watch. And oh yes, you will most likely be on your feet dancing to a fun '80s soundtrack. Think "Let's Hear it for the Boys" (Deneice Williams) and Kenny Loggins' "Footloose."
So make it a good year, and take what you need from this movie. You're bound to feel pretty motivated and inspired at the end -- feelings that help to catapult change.

Ode to Accessories
I never leave home without my collapsable, chain-like, gold and silver Tiffany ring. I have had it for eight years; my family gave it to me on my 22nd birthday. It's classic and chic, with a bit of funk mixed in it. Fits my style perfectly, so it accents all of my outfits nicely. I'm sure you can relate -- I'm sure you have at least one piece of jewelry that is always a part of you, which you won't dare go without.
These days, however, with so many fun accessories available as ready-to-wear pieces, it's time to get going and explore various ways to accent your wardrobe. It's important to note that the term "accessories" is not just another way to describe jewelry. Sure, earrings, necklaces, and rings are most definitely accessories. But overall, accessories are those items that accent an outfit! This means brooches, sunglasses, scarves, hats, belts, and hair wear. While I am all for preaching that you should stick close to what is comfortable, I am also a personal shopper who believes that stepping out of your comfort zone and trying something new is oh-so-healthy.
So whether you are receiving new accessories today, as Christmas gifts, or are receiving a gift card to say, Forever 21, start thinking about how you can bring a fresh taste to your wardrobe. One of my favorite new pieces is an oversized black and silver flower ring that takes up nearly half of my left hand. My 4-year old niece picked it out for me as a Chanukah gift. I love it! It makes a sort of in-your-face-exaggerated statement about femininity and style. I also received some new printed scarves last month, for my 30th birthday, which I have been wearing with pride...in all different twisty, drapey ways. My Tiffany bracelet and Tiffany star of David necklace, which I received from my family as birthday gifts, also make me smile. These two pieces are wonderful additions to my jewelry collection, that which I treat kindly, keeping them tucked away until a certain special day has arrived.
But back to venturing out and immersing yourself into the world of accessories, do not overlook how certain items can embrace your look. Different types of pieces can allow you to transform a simple outfit into a fabulous one, and can change up the same outfit to appear as though it's completely different, bringing versatility to your wardrobe.

So I will be attending The Bouncing Souls concert in a few weeks, and I'm totally excited! It will be my second time seeing this east coast punk band. The first time was at The Glass House in downtown Pomona months ago, and now their upcoming show will be in Anaheim at the House of Blues. I bring this up not only because I can't wait to enjoy their music up close and personal -- I am already thinking about what I'm going to wear. And I realize that if I'M thinking about what I plan to wear to a standing-only show, there are many of you out there who may be thinking about the same thing as you prepare to see one of your favorite bands/musicians in a venue such as these.
So what to wear...hmmmm. It naturally depends on various factors. So here are some of my tips on how to determine what to wear, with some ideas on what to wear and what not to wear, piece by piece (all from personal experience):
Accessories: You may love making a statement with your accessories, be it chunky necklaces or multi-colored dangly earrings. But unless you are headed to a concert hall that has comfy seats and ushers, I highly suggest going for studs and no necklaces. Think about it: The mosh pit may be close to you and you may be waving and pumping your fists in the hair throughout the show. So...do you really want to lose a piece of your accessories due to the hustling and bustling of hyper concert-goers? It is likely that your excitement could even cause you to accidentally knock an accessory off. You know, all the movement and stuff. Not worth it. Save the elaborate accessories for a Mariah Carey concert.
Handbags: Don't you wanna keep your hands free? It's natural to feel the music and wave your arms. So, I think it's best to avoid bringing a clutch or a handbag that can't be worn on your shoulders. In fact, the most ideal type of bag to take is a satchel-like purse that can be worn across your shoulders so it can just lie at your side. And it's best to keep it on the small side, with just enough room for your keys, wallet, and phone. (OK, some room for makeup may make you happy too.) The last thing you want is to get shoulder groove pains because it's too heavy.
Shoes: Going to a show that is standing only means that you will be STANDING. Heels, of course, are an adorable accent to most outfits. But most of you don't arrive just in time to see the headliner. You will most likely be standing throughout all of the opening bands. This means that you could be standing for up to five hours. Keep this mind when you shop for concert wear or pick out your favorite shoes to wear. Flats, my friends, will be your best friend at a concert hall like the Glass House or House of Blues.
Shirts: A cotton tank, I believe, is the best bet when it comes to going to a concert. With so many bodies close by, you are bound to get hot and possibly even sweaty (depending on the intensity of the show). And should the weather be chilly -- yes I know it's the season of cold and rain -- bring a sweatshirt that can be tied around your waist. That way, you're not shivering walking in and walking out of the venue.
Pants: Jeans are a given -- comfy jeans, that is. Feeling cute is always important, no matter where you go. But be practical also. Again, you're standing for hours, and may be sweating...So when your pants are really tight, that can feel gross after awhile. So leave yourself some breathing room. You may need to push through the crowds for a bathroom break, drinks, and/or food. Allow yourself to move swiftly and easily when making your way through the crowds. It's not the time to have to continue to hike up tight jeans throughout the entire night. Think: no hassle.
Shorts: Just like pants, you want to wear shorts that are ultra comfy. Also, they probably shouldn't be too short. If you are someone who crowd surfs, especially...There will be hands touching your body. Do you want to feel uncomfortable or upset because there is someone trying to hold you up too high on your thighs? Just be smart.
Dresses/Skirts: These pieces of clothing can be iffy. I am actually steering you away from wearing dresses or skirts to a standing only rock concert. There is typically a lot of testosterone surrounding you (depending who the band or musician is), and there is such a thing as wandering hands. I know that this article isn't about the safety of concerts, but what you wear definitely plays a role in it. There are many of you, however, that may feel more comfortable and free wearing a dress or skirt, because you may feel less stuff and hot. Hey, to each her own. This is just my perspective as to what will benefit as well as hinder your experience at a fun show.
Before I wrote this, I consulted a blogger friend (who is a regular concert-goer herself), asking her if she thought that this topic would be of interest to readers. Her response was, "Yes!!! I have never read anything of this sort before It sounds like it would be extremely helpful." So I went for it.
Are you glad I did?

Bye Bye Babydoll Dress
The babydoll-style dress is just not for me anymore. I am moving on!
Check out my recent "Talking Chic" column in Agenda Magazine: "This Trend is Not For Me." 'Cause let's get real -- not every trend is meant for all shapes and sizes. Once you can accept that, the better off you'll be! As a personal shopper and wardrobe consultant -- I promise you that.

Whooga Boots to Keep My Toes Toasty!
UGG boots were never my thing. I used to think (to be honest) that they were dull and silly. The always came across to me as average and boring. Even though many fashionistas can pull them off, showing off their personal styles, I just never took to them.
But then I received a pair of nearly knee-high Whooga UGG-inspired, eco-friendly, weave black boots...I LOVE them! This Australian company definitely understands comfy footwear.
The pair that I am wearing, Whooga weave boots, can be worn straight up, scrunched down, or folded over. Think of leg warmers -- a nearly identical concept. The ribbed cotton style hugs your calves nicely. If you wear them straight up, which I like to do mostly, they may start to scrunch down slightly, but not annoyingly enough that you don't ever want to wear them again.
NOW, I get why UGG boots have become so popular -- they are like slippers with sole support and keep your toes all nice and toasty. I still won't be the kind of SoCalifornian who wears them with skirts on a hot day (no offense if you do). I like them for practical reasons. Pictured above, I wore them with leggings, a flirty floral dress, and my leather rocker jacket. A chilly night downtown Pomona called for my Whoogas!
Check out their site to see their selected styles. Prices are on the high side, typically over $100 per pair. (The boots that I have are on sale right now for $98, down from $170. It appears that black is not available anymore, but there are multiple basic colors to choose from.) But if you live in a cold region, and really need to keep warm, my bet is you'll be happy with your purchase. Good quality and will add to a seasonally appropriate wardrobe.

Aster Magazine: A Visual Index That Inspires
Aster Magazine, an ezine that offers both visual and intellectual stimulation, recently interviewed me! Not only am I proud to share that such a fabulous online publication decided to feature me (Justine, the endearing writer who accompanied me to meet Steve Madden, did a phenomenal job!), I am proud to introduce you to Aster Magazine due to its unique concept and approach towards all that is art. And yes, that naturally includes fashion.
Initially launching as a magazine that featured artists who directly engaged with Aster, this mag has grown into a full-fledged work of art in itself. The focus on creativity is evident in that it "includes professional works in lifestyle, fashion, art, design, photography, music, architecture and other mediums," while showing an appreciation for those behind the processes. So you can imagine my delight in being asked for an interview, considering the inspiring direction and philosophy of this magazine.
Being recognized as a professional personal shopper and fashion blogger is totally fulfilling -- an experience that I, the Good Girl Gone Shopping, will never forget.

Do You Have a Shopping Fund?

Credit cards can get you in trouble, especially when it comes to shopping (unless you are really smart with budgeting what you charge). So how do you save money when it comes to funding your shopping habits? Personally, I like to cut back on the little things, cause the little things can add up. Here 5 ways to regularly save money so that you can go on mini-shopping trips when the time is right:
- Bring your lunch to work
- Make home-cooked dinner meals (the sushi restaurant will always be there)
- Make coffee vs. a $4 Starbucks coffee every morning
- Keep your electricity bill low by turning lights, air conditioners, and computers off when you're not using them
- Pay bills on time in order to avoid late charges
While most of these tips are common sense, it's amazing how many people don't pay attention to how quickly costs can throw you off. I'll admit it: I keep a piggy bank specifically to fund my shopping trips. Change can quickly add up, and it feels great to pour out my change after a month, and voila! Thirty dollars emerges. Depending on where I shop, whether online or in a retail hot spot, it is total satisfaction to know that I am not sacrificing other expenses to buy jeans, shoes, blouses, dresses, and/or accessories. 'Cause in this day and age, you gotta be smart where it counts.
So let's hear it. What are your tips for saving money?

What's In YOUR Handbag?

I am guilty of not cleaning out my handbag on a regular basis. And I say this with embarassment. I know that in order to stay organized you must get rid of clutter. Whether it's cleaning out your closet, cleaning out your desk, or cleaning out your handbag, it is important to reduce the amount of junk that has accrued. Simplifying what you have will only make your life less stressful.
So as I am about to attempt to clean out my trusty H&M black hobo bag, I realize that it's a new day to start over. I must not hold on to what I don't need. I must say bye-bye to my many mini-notebooks, change purses, and other things that are simply weighing my purse down. Fumbling through my purse every day is nothing but a burden, and although I could use the excuse that I'm too busy to do so...I won't. My name is Elana, and I am a handbag hoarder.
'Cause all you really need in your handbag is: a small pouch of makeup, your wallet, keys, phone, any necessary feminine products, and possibly a camera. Honestly, what else really belongs? Junk is junk, and I should know better.
What is in YOUR handbag?

Shut Up and Shop

OK, with all due respect, I don't really mean "shut up." What I mean is: Stop hesitating! If you have the budget to shop, the time to hit your favorite stores, and the desire to update your wardrobe, what is really stopping you?
One of the biggest excuses that stop women from shopping is based on fear. They fear they won't find their size, they fear that they aren't "cool enough" to wear a new trend, they fear that they won't be able to afford anything...etc...Well, these are all "what if's." Just like anything in life, you won't know if you don't try. And I know this from firsthand experience!
If you can relate to these fear factors, here is some advice on how to approach shopping, should it be the right time to spend your money and purchases new pieces:
- Make a list of what you really need and what are extras in order to avoid over-spending. Focus on your necessities first.
- Wear a comfy pair of shoes so you can spend the time you need to shop. The last thing you want is to be forced to end your shopping day early because your dogs are killing you. Be smart!
- Take a buddy with you for a second opinion if you truly feel clueless. A little help from someone you trust can go a long way.
- Bring the shoes or items of clothing that you are hoping to match a new item with. This will help avoid playing the guessing game and eventually having to return the new items.
- Try on! Let go of your inhibitions and try something new. Maybe that black pencil skirt hugs your body just right or that mini denim skirt perfectly shows off your long legs. Most pieces look completely different on the hanger than when you actually wear them.
- Know your measurements. All lines run a little differently, so if you know what your measurements are and your size, you will find pieces that flatter your figure a lot of faster. And the key here: Don't lie to yourself. Finding something that fits is more important than the number.
And the number one important tip is: HAVE FUN. Shopping should be a leisurely and exciting opportunity to revamp your style. You will not have fun if you dread the experience. I promise you that.
Have some tips of your own? Please feel free to share!

Interview: 'Bangle and Clutch' Founder Nannette Bosh Tells All
Fashion does NOT have to cost a fortune. Again, I repeat: Fashion does NOT have to cost a fortune.
Luxurious style is most definitely affordable and accessible -- it's just a matter of where you shop (and how you use your smarts). That said, I am totally happy that BangleandClutch.com exists as it is a site that offers a diverse selection of unique accessories, including jewelry, bags and "trendy extras." From marked down items to higher ticketed pieces, the accessories sold on Bangle and Clutch cater to fashionistas with different budgets. I love that!
And 'cause I love to pick the brains of those who create greatness, I interviewed the founder, Nannette Bosh. Her mission is to offer women the right accessories for their outfit and wardrobes. 'Nuff said -- enjoy!
There are so many fabulous features on your site, BangleandClutch.com, that I don't know where to start! So, how about you tell me how you got started in this industry...
Business ownership is in my blood. My parents started their own successful business over 25 years ago. I learned at a young age that if you are willing to take risks the rewards can be amazing. I have always loved fashion. When I was younger I worked for a local boutique, one of three stores owned by just one woman. I totally looked up to and admired her -- I absolutely loved that job. Being able to help women pull a look together that was perfect for them, and seeing their elated faces and renewed sense of confidence made me feel like I was making a difference.
I eventually became a part owner in the family's manufacturing business. However, a year later, I sold my company shares to my brother because I knew I was destined to head back to the business that I loved: fashion. I started a fashion wholesale and rep company after working at the accessory tradeshows. Being exposed to all the most recent fashion trends out of NY and LA, I realized that all women should have access to these hot trends, not just the ones living in the fashion capitols. If you live outside NY and LA you can often find yourself waiting two years to gain access to that couture in your area, if at all. Bingo, I found my niche! So I had to open Bangle and Clutch, as I knew in my gut (and lucky for me) I was right.
Your site offers amazing deals on unique jewelry and an incredible selection. How does your team provide an overall, well-rounded experience for consumers?
We carefully select the most unique beautiful pieces we can find and order in limited quantity so that everyone can feel they have something special. Shopping for and selecting that perfect piece is not easy for many women, especially online. So I wanted to be sure that BangleandClutch.com had a platform for women to use as a resource for personal assistance. I knew it was extremely important to find a way to help our clients online as if they were inside our brick and mortar. That is why we created the "Get the Look" page on the website. This page is a place for women to go where they can upload a photo of themselves as well as their outfits, and we can help them create a great look of their own. This type of style assistance helps women scoop up compliments, and we all know compliments build self-esteem.
It is said that Bangle and Clutch was founded on the concept of bringing out a woman's inner "fashionista." How does your merchandise help to achieve this?
Let's face it we all have the days where we want to bum out in our sweats. However on most days women do want to look their shiny best. Many women will see a look and feel they can't pull it off. Actually our clients are continuously increasing the size of the pieces they purchase because as the compliments roll in, their confidence soars. The client who was once a lady sporting a simple strand of pearls now becomes a woman in a statement necklace that walks confidently into the room because she owns it and she knows it. These are the women who have released their inner "fashionista."
If my budget was $50 for a new pair of earrings, which ones would you recommend? My style is boho chic...
The moment I heard boho chic the first thing that came to mind is our multi-colored Palmetto Peacock Feather earrings. Priced at $24.00 you can get a pair for yourself and one for a friend. We now offer free shipping so you will actually come in $2.00 under budget. While nice in the picture, trust me they are truly stunning in person.
There is definitely a warm and fuzzy feeling attached to Bangle and Clutch. I believe the "Ask Nannette" section helps to put people at ease. How long have you been addressing lifestyle questions and concerns?
I've been a Certified Lifestyle & Relationship Coach for almost a year. It is my personal goal to help as many women as possible have it all, and then some. I feel it is time to pay it forward. I believe that with inspiration, motivation, and the right communication techniques women can become empowered enough to have it all. I have a style book releasing in February called "My Style, My Way" and have begun working on a second book that will deal more with how we feel on the inside not how we look on the outside. I have fallen madly in love with female inspiration -- it is amazingly powerful.
Tell me about your own sense of fashion. What/who is your inspiration?
I love so many different styles that I tend to be a bit all over the place. I guess you could say I dress to fit my mood. I hate to admit it but I am not loyal to any one designer, and I much prefer the new up-and-comers. These designers march to the beat of their own drum. This is where the true artistic talent can be found, and it shows in their work. Their accessories are unique and beautiful because they love what they do and it shows. They are humble, yet proud, and to me that is inspiring.
What are some of Bangle and Clutch must-haves?
I think every woman needs a killer statement necklace. It should have multiple colors so you can weave it throughout your entire wardrobe. Must-haves are so personal. However, my must-have favorite on the site is It's a Necklace, Bracelet & a Belt, which is eighty inches of interchangeable beads and chains. The possibilities with this piece are endless.
Another thing every woman must have is a dress bag and a clutch, both with a pop of color. And it doesn't need to match your shoes; it only needs to compliment them. We all love our little black dress and this is the way to make your ordinary dress extraordinary.
Three words to describe your site: Trendsetting, Inspirational, and Unique. Photo Credit: Courtesy of BangleandClutch.com

'Geek Chic' Eyewear by 7 for All Mankind

I got my first pair of glasses at 15 years old. It was during a time when I couldn't read the notes in my piano books very well and the chalkboard at school became blurry to me. Did I want glasses at the time? Sorta...I felt like it would provide me with an intellectual style that would complement my rebellious streak. Thrift stores and rock music ruled my life, and wearing glasses gave me a new sense of confidence. I never resisted the idea of needing glasses. My first pair at the time had plastic frames that were bright red (I had to make a statement!), before I moved onto metal wires as a senior in high school for a classier fashion mode.
My Calvin Klein, black, plastic-framed glasses were my third pair as a young 20-something year old before getting another pair of Calvin's that were thicker on the side and had pink undertones paired up with black. I bought those a few years ago. Now, I sorta have bling glasses -- bold, black plastic frames with a glittery Dolce and Gabbana logo on the side. These are my life now. I wear them always. I figure that my number one accessory is actually a necessity, so why not treat myself to couture. They cost me an arm and a leg, but I love them! They have an over-the-top appeal, but then again, so am I in a sense. They match my personality.
Recently, I've been thinking that, hmmmm, maybe it's time to invest in a new pair so that I have some options; now toying with the idea that 7 for all Mankind eyewear should be my next purchase. I had no idea that this popular line had collections of eyewear, besides clothing (specifically denim). I was surprised and totally excited! Pictured here, are a few styles that may add to your own 'Geek Chic' style. They are each $148 -- not too shabby.
But before I purchase a new pair, I must analyze my finances. Just like most of you, I'm consistently on a budget! Splurging for a new pair of glasses when I actually have two (I kept my Calvin's with the pink) is not always a good idea when it's not the right time. It's great, however, to keep your ideal purchase in the back of your mind. So when you're ready...you're ready to shop!
