Gavin Stefani, Er...Gavin Rossdale...Makes a Comeback

(Their Early Rocker Days) --------------------> (Hollywood Glam)

For years, as Gwen Stefani jumped leaps and bounds with No Doubt and on her own as a solo artist and fashion designer, Gavin Rossdale seemed to just be, well, there. But for those who were big-time fans of his late 90s band Bush, and not just fans of his abs, know that he isn't just arm candy to Gwen. So when I would hear the media or gossip mags refer to him as "Gavin Stefani" (I actually think I read that in Courtney Love's autobiography about 10 years ago, with her calling him that,...but don't quote me on that.), I thought, well that's not fair. Just because his wife has pushed herself into the category off mega-superstar and into the flashes of the paparazzi, doesn't mean that Gavin has not continued to be creative with music or pursue his passion. Maybe it just wasn't as public or pop as Gwen's reputation has become.

That's why I'm so excited every time I hear his new solo from Wanderlust on the radio. It's a great song by a fabulous 40-year old rocker, who seems to also be an amazing father, and supportive husband who did not hide from the camera out of jealousy; rather time and again, he made his entrance with his chin up. And in my book, that's all a tough-ass girl like Gwen could ask for.

Work Your Body!

Wellness Editor

I work out with a personal trainer. This is a luxury for me --a way for me to treat myself well. I regularly hear spectators to my grueling fitness regime yell out "I should be doing that." But they don’t.

Excuses are paralyzing. Action is rewarding.

I started working out with my trainer Curtis a couple of years ago. We work out in the morning. This is great for me because it starts my day of with "me time" doing an activity that is beneficial for me. I’ve noticed when working out in the morning my eating habits tend to be on track throughout the day.

What I enjoy most about training (and Curtis’style) is that each session is some new and different challenge. I struggle, even yell sometimes, but in the end I leave with a natural high and knowing that I have done something good for my body. Today a woman commented on how good I look.

Another asked me if I was a trainer. Those comments from spectators are nice too!
Want to work out but can't afford a trainer? Try a boot camp. Boot camps allow you to work out in a group setting at a reduced cost and add a new group of people to your life for socializing and support. From time to time I also participate in a boot camp. It’s a fun group of people from all walks of life. We even spend time outside of working out at birthday parties, comedy events and recently, a quincenera.

To find a boot camp near you search the Internet for "boot camp" and the name of your city. Inquire about pricing, number of students, and type of training. I’ve lost weight, my stomach is flat and with my 20-year high school reunion approaching, I feel great about how I look.

Work out in style with Yoga and Pilates apparel from Travertine Spa, and learn more about Curtis Ludlow and his Fullerton boot camp at bootcampfx.com

'Hermitage Art to Wear' Silk Wraps for a New Stylish Statement

For Lara Volkonskaya, fashion and art are interchangeable. And with her vibrant collection of silk wraps, any true style maven can tell this immediately. If you're a gal who is searching for that classic fashion piece that you can't find in every other department store, whether shopping for yourself, your mom, your sister, or that really cool aunt of your who is obsessed with art nouveau, Lara's designs will satisfy your craving. To my lovely male readers -- think ideas! A fabulous gift for a loved one, be it her summer birthday, an anniversary, an early Valentine's Day present to store away, or that always coveted just-because gift, be sure to take in my interview with Lara (and that's her as the model! Awesome, right?)

...Another one of my inspirational interviews that I bring to you! Enjoy:

How long have you been "painting on silk?"

This is correct: an artist first and a designer second. I strongly believe that when a designer chooses a fabric it’s the fabric that dictates the shape and destination of clothes and not vice versa. Plus, if you choose a painting for clothes the task of a designer becomes not to spoil the painting. It’s like being a good sculptor: a good sculptor takes a piece of marble and removes all the unnecessary parts and pieces thus creating a work of art. The same is with me: I take a painting and turn it into a wearable piece of art.

What type of woman do you hope to attract with your pieces?

I’ve been painting all my life whether it was a piece of paper or a wall. The idea of painting on silk came to me when I lived in New York. I became acquainted with Japanese culture through reading ancient Japanese poetry. In ancient Japan and China people who represented high society wore exclusively silk clothes and wrote poetry about color combinations of their clothes. Dressing well was considered to be an art. Silk was extremely expensive at that time. Silk clothes were a luxury to own. Indeed, silk lets your skin breath and it cools your body in the summer and keeps it warm during cold times of year if you wear something over it. I made my first paintings and gave them as gifts to the UN where I worked at the time. To my surprise they were framed and hung on walls. Then I sold a couple of paintings to several museums and after that I decided that if my paintings belong in a museum it means that clothes made of such paintings, would belong in a museum as well, together with women that wear them.

Are there certain modern-day designers that you hope to catch attention from? Is that one of your goals?

So far my clothes have attracted women of an “elegant age” who understand beauty. But I hope to attract younger women, too who are looking for colors and have enough personality to make a statement with their clothes.

One of my favorite sections on your size is your size chart. It shows that you are very concerned with fit and making sure that the customer understands her body...

This is correct. In Europe, for example body must follow the clothes and here, in the USA it’s clothes that must follow the body.

The "Ancient Greece" piece is one of my favorites. Do you favor one style over another of yours?

Yes, of course. It’s a question of what becomes to me most. In other words, which style expresses my feminine wonderful self most? Since I consider myself to be a Renaissance woman it’s the Renaissance style that I prefer most.

Are any of your pieces being sold in a walk-in boutique?

Not yet. I am planning to open a boutique here, in Vegas towards the end of the year.

Do you create art on other mediums?

I do. I create art on paper: I write poetry and so far I have published a dozen of books of poetry.

Summertime in Southern California Means I'm Thinkin' Of...

...a fun weekend with my friends and my Steve! This was from our recent San Diego trip. And why do I not have cool, chic shades on? Well, cause I'm blind without my glasses and I'm scared to wear contacts...which means I will need to turn a pair of hot sunglasses into prescription hot sunglasses...which means I have to go forth and make an eye doctor appointment.....which means I have to find time to do so....

Which means I will probably squint in my Calvin Kleins for the rest of the summer. Great.

But should I finally get a cool pair, what style do you envision me -- a personal shopper and wardrobe consultant -- wearing? Send me or post a pic of something sophisticated and edgy! I'm thinking big ones, but not Nicole Richie-huge.

What Do You Wanna Be When You Grow Up?

Wellness Editor

When I Grow up I Wanna.....

What did you wanna do? Believe it or not I found homework from 6th grade where I wrote I wanted to be a lawyer (I found this homework after I finished law school). Now that you are grown up, what do you want to do?

I've learned that most adults can't or won't answer this question. As children we boldy proclaim what we want to do with our lives. As adults I think we let fear of self-doubt keep us from desires. I'm not suggesting that you walk in to work tomorrow quit your job, stop paying your mortgage, and spend your children's college fund on a whim. I simply want to encourage you to dream a little. I don't think we have to have just one career in life.

Dreams can change. I like law. I also like creating companies. I feel like my dream evolved, but I went with it. Now I have a luxury brand of products and apparel (and write my own contracts).

I had a friend at a former job who was a manager in the corporate communications department. He expressed how he missed writing for newspapers and felt that his responsibilities as bread winner would not allow him to start from the ground up with a national newspaper. I reminded him that his love was writing. He could write for local papers once a month and still achieve his goal.

I once read "A dream deferred makes the heart sick." I know that persuing a dream is pure adrenaline. As for me, I want to sing in a rock band, live in Italy, and teach entrepreneurship at the univeristy level. For now, I`ll look for a voice coach, later take Italian lessons and dust of my resume.

Thanks for the motivation, Terry! Visit Terry's company Travertine Spa online and pamper yourself with this month's sale item, Lavender Botanical Body Wash.

Does Someone Your Know Need a "Class" Makeover?

I don't know about you, but a day has yet to come that I can arrive at work with up-to-there shorts like Mariah. True, I am confined to a computer screen while she is confined to embracing her sexuality on stage...but it makes me think about the number of women I see at Starbucks in the morning heading to work with shirts too low that promotes the idea that a little cleavage or lots of shoulder is just part of the uniform. (But do they know if their bosses or fellow employees take them seriously?)

From my own trial and errors, and seeing many other people's faux paus, I am proud to be of service. If you or someone you know would like to hold a group seminar, be it at work or at a boutique -- you know who to call for personal shopping and wardrobe consulting. During the brief seminar I held at my Good Girl Gone Shopping launch party, the questions that came from this guest or that guest, was great for the others to hear and learn from. It's all about sharing ideas, right?

Remember summer's here, and the time is right...for just one woman to walk into your work dressed inappropriately skimpy. Do YOU want to be a 'Good Girl' too and invite her to a shopping seminar?

Contact me and we'll chat!

My Exclusive Interview with Jill Sherman from 'Trend de La Creme'

Ever since I landed on the formely-known-as "Trendinista," I knew that the author was completely rooted in proving how fashion = art. And since transitioning into Trend de la Creme -- a redesigned blog that has the combination of haute couture and avante garde written all over it, I know that Jill Sherman is still a leading and inflential fashion blogger. Ahead of her time, she is.

So check out my exclusive interview with the head of Trend de le Creme. Maybe she answered some of the questions you've been also dying to ask!

I see that you love Paper and Nylon magazines, two of my ultimate faves as well. What about fashion drives you?

This will probably sound crazy, but I love how fashion is connected to the world around us. When a designer draws inspiration from nature, architecture, the cosmos—anything for that matter—I am reminded of it each time I see the piece on the catwalk, in a magazine, or on a person walking by me on the street. (Whoever said the devil is in the details was right in a way. I can get a little obsessed with trying to figure out what inspired a particular collection, a piece of jewelry, a new bag design, etc. It would be nice to just sit back and appreciate it in its entirety for once.)

So tell me about the name change! I still love "Trendinista" I gotta say. But "Trend de le Creme" sounds scrumptious too...

I still love the name Trendinista, but the person who owns Trendinista.com wasn’t willing to sell it. I finally got tired of people saying, “I went to Trendinista.com and there was this crab walking back and forth. What’s up with that?” Thus, the name Trend de la Crème was born. (It’s a play on “crème de la crème” which means “best of the best” in French. Although, it’s not a perfect fit considering my habit of featuring fashion bombs from time to time. But I think my readers look forward to my funny finds, so I’m sticking with it.)

One of my favorite sections on your site is the terminology - "Site Directory/ Shortcuts." Are there certain phrases in the fashion and beauty blogging world that you currently can't stand?

Nothing specific to fashion and beauty blogging at the moment, but I hate the word “blogorrhea.” which, of course, a lot of people love. (You know, when a blogger just goes on and on about nothing in particular.) I’m hoping somebody comes up with a better word like “blah-blah-ging.” (Isn’t it interesting how everything always comes back to poop? *sigh* Bodily functions are funny that way.)

A little background about yourself please?

For the past 10 years, I’ve worked in different capacities at beauty companies – marketing, product development, advertising, public relations, etc. I am currently heading up marketing efforts for a new Internet venture that launches in November. Nothing related to fashion, unfortunately. (I guess I’ll just have to continue using my blog as a creative outlet!)

How would you define your own fashion sense?

Slightly ahead of trends with a little bit of an artsy edge. Nothing too spectacular. I do, however, have a penchant for pricy handbags (but only if they’re really to die for.)

Do you think blogging will ever go out of style?

Never! The Internet has forever changed the way people receive and share information. The popularity of blogging may have its ups and downs, but the culture of getting information from a myriad of niche sources is here to stay.

Got an Itch for a New Clutch? AccessoryBug.com is Where it's At.

(Bags from AccessoryBug.com, ranging from $37.99 - $44.99)

I love metallic clutches. To me, a gold, bronze, or silver mini-handbag is the quintessential of glamour and rock n' roll all mixed into one.

But you know what also has that taste of classic luxury -- black clutches. And boy oh boy, does Accessory Bug offer women a plethora of styles. As a personal shopper, I have an appointment coming up with a cosmetic company owner who is looking forward to revamp her wardrobe with chic, flattering professional pieces (think "Andy," Anne Hathaway's character in "The Devil Wears Prada"). And I believe a black clutch could be a great transitional accessory for her - from her day job to an evening out.

A special offer from the Accessory Bug for Good Girl Gone Shopping readers: 10% off regular priced items. Just enter "stim08" at checkout. It's their "style stimulus plan" -- cute, huh?

***********************************************************

On a different note, my recent Saturday was a blast as I spent the day in the field (in shops) with a male client who needed my last-minute trip the day before he left for a business trip. In 2 hours, he scored a black textured suit, a chocolate curdoroy blazer, and a pewter-colored zip casual jacket. The total cost: $150. He was so excited that he wanted to keep adding more pieces, but I had to stop him! I told that my job as his personal shopper is to help him save money in the process, in addition to helping him score hot items. While a black clutch is obviously not part of his credo, you should see the way he rocks his "man bag," which was one of his favorite purchases from Target.

(JCPenney jacket similar to one of my client's awesome, new pieces!)

Do you know what you're gonna wear this summer? Contact me to set up an appointment!

A Must-See '95 So-Called Horror Film: Dolores Claiborne

I woke up this morning with a scratchy throat, weak muscles, and achy head...so the energy to actually get ready for work was a no-go. As one of those over-achiever, workaholic types, I rarely stay home during the week.

But I truly don't want to get worse -- there are a lot of projects to focus on this week. So, I am laying on the couch with my laptop on my well, lap, and multi-tasking even while sick. I am also watching the 1995 flick "Dolores Claiborne" with Kathy Bates and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Secrets, domestic abuse, sex, family, and a drunken husband/ father. If you have an afternoon to spare and wanna get inside a different world, well Bates is one extraordinary actress. She's one righteous ass-kicker housemaid.

Ever seen it?
